What is the Volunteering Teams project?

In particular, volunteering teams are solidarity activities that allow groups of participants to volunteer together. European Solidarity Corps volunteers will perform tasks for a short period of time and these activities will be useful for both individuals and communities benefiting from this service.

Who can participate?

Young people aged between 18 and 30 who legally reside in an EU country or in a partner country and have registered in the ESC portal, therefore this group will be composed of young Italians and participants from Greece, Spain and Poland.

Volunteers will carry out activities in the field of sustainable development with a specific focus on the theme of conscious consumption, within a framework of concrete interventions in the fight against climate change. The group will be involved in actions in the Altamura area such as the harvesting of tomatoes from a local field and subsequent transformation into tomato sauce with traditional Apulian techniques. The activities will end with a local solidarity market where the product will be "proposed" to the local community with a collection of funds that will be allocated to associations that work to support migrants involved in the tomato harvest.

Altamura is divided into two parts: the city and the historical centre. In the old town, you can visit the cathedral, the unique church in Puglia commissioned by Federico II diSvevia in the year 1232. It is the most important monument of the city together with the square around it. The summer the city centre is populated by young people and tourist which enjoy spending time drinking and eating Italian specialities such as ice-cream. The city has 70.000 inhabitants, but it is quite small, so it is possible to reach every point by foot or by bike.
