Hi, my name is Nika and I volunteered at LINK through the European Solidarity Corps.
My project lasted for 6 months and concluded at the beginning of March 2025 :)
I’m writing this article to share my experiences and the skills I gained, hoping it can serve as a guide for potential volunteers interested in this program. However, I want to emphasize that every volunteering journey is unique, and your experience may differ from mine.
The biggest strengths of volunteering at Link is the variety of projects they offer.
Usually there are two or three projects that take place simultaneously each of them helping the community in their own way. One day you might be discussing international problems such as mental health and another week you spent working on the wood and picking olive oils in the countryside and the best part is that the organization allows you to choose the projects you want to work on.
This freedom pushes you to become more assertive and give you opportunities to step outside your comfort zone. As a result, I experienced a wide range of new things and did activities I might not have tried otherwise!
Another crucial skill that I acquired during my volunteering is crowd controlling and room management. In various projects we had to manage the groups of more than 10 people and making sure that everything runs smoothly takes skills. I personally never noticed this during the project, but now I have much easier tame managing the big groups of people.
One of the most important skills I developed during my volunteering experience was the ability to bring my ideas to life.
On numerous occasions, I had to design activities from scratch and then bring them in to fruition in less than a day. This process required not only creativity but also problem-solving skills, as I had to anticipate potential challenges and prepare ahead of time. I learned how to effectively plan, manage, and execute my ideas.
Overall, volunteering is an incredibly rewarding experience.
The best part is that there are countless projects available, allowing you to find one that aligns with your interests. No matter your passion or skills, there’s an opportunity out there for you—so you should definitely give it a try!
